SAT Free Workshops for Teens-CANCELED

This class has been canceled for today and the 18th. It will be rescheduled at a future date. Sorry for any inconvenience.
---Glen Park Library

The Glen Park Library will be hosting a 3 hour SAT Intensive on:
Tuesdays: January 11 & 18 from 4:00 - 5:30PM

You can sign up online here.

3-hour SAT INTENSIVE
Our 3-hour intensive follows the same course outline as above, but squeezes it all into just two 90 minute classes!

This is the quick fix for the student who is too busy to commit to a month-long workshop, but still wants to review the strategies and techniques to improve her or his scores on the writing, critical reading and math sections of the SAT.
  • Workshops are free and are intended for high school students, with priority registration to juniors. There is a limit of 25 students per class. Additional information is available directly from the library branches.
  • Space permitting, students can join a two or four class series at any point, but we do ask that you make a commitment to attend all of the classes in a series.
  • The workshops are intensive and we move quickly through the material, so we ask that every student ensure at least basic familiarity with the SAT by taking a full-length pre-test prior to the first day of class. That way, students who have not previously taken the SAT or PSAT will have hands-on experience with the test. The pre-test can be downloaded a head of time and answers will provided on the first day of class.
  • Please expect an average of 2 hours of homework between classes. Students who complete the homework and participate in class achieve noticeably higher score improvements.

Friends Forever

  • Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Others stay awhile, make footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same.
  • This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love
  • Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow; Don't walk behind me, I may not lead; Walk beside me, and just be my friend.
  • Two lives, two hearts joined together in friendship united forever in love
  • A mere friend will agree with you, but a real friend will argue.
  • A friend is someone, who upon seeing another friend in immense pain, would rather be the one experiencing the pain than to have to watch their friend suffer.
  • Your worst enemy could be your best friend, and your best friend your worst enemy.
  • Never shall I forget the times I spent with you; continue to be my friend, as you will always find me yours.
  • May the sun always shine on your windowpane; May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain; May the hand of a friend always be near you; May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
  • A friend is one to whom one can pour out all the contents of one's heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keeping what is worth keeping, and, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away.
  • A friend is someone who sees through you and still enjoys the view.
  • As the rest of the world is walking out the door, your best friend's are the ones walking in.
  • Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead
  • Be slow in choosing a friend, but slower in changing him.
  • Without friends no one would choose to live.
  • The road to a friend's house is never long
  • To attract good fortune, spend a new coin on an old friend, share an old pleasure with a new friend, and lift up the heart of a true friend by writing his name on the wings of a dragon.
  • To the query, ''What is a friend?'' his reply was ''A single soul dwelling in two bodies.''
  • Choose your friends carefully. Your enemies will choose you.
  • Tell me who's your friend and I'll tell you who you are.
  • Choose in marriage only a woman whom you would choose as a friend if she were a man.
  • The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
  • A faithful friend is the medicine of life.
  • I need not fear my enemies because the most they can do is attack me. I need not fear my friends because the most they can do is betray me. But I have much to fear from people who are indifferent.
  • A friend is a present you give to yourself.
  • He whose hand is clasped in friendship cannot throw mud.
  • Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.
  • Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures, and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits become tedious.
  • I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside me.
  • One who's our friend is fond of us; one who's fond of us isn't necessarily our friend.
  • The road to a friend's house is never long.
  • Between friends differences in taste or opinion are irritating in direct proportion to their triviality.
  • The trebling of the population in this small and impoverished country, flowing with milk and honey but not with sufficient water, rich in rocks and sand dunes but poor in natural resources and vital raw materials, has been no easy task: Indeed, practical men, with their eyes fixed upon things as they are, regarded it as an empty and insubstantial utopian dream.
  • He who has not the weakness of friendship has not the strength.
  • It is in the thirties that we want friends. In the forties we know they won't save us any more than love did.
  • To be capable of steady friendship or lasting love, are the two greatest proofs, not only of goodness of heart, but of strength of mind.
  • Your enemy is never a villain in his own eyes. Keep this in mind, it may offer a way to make him your friend. If not, you can kill him without hate--and quickly.
  • Friendship is a sheltering tree.
  • The worst solitude is to be destitute of sincere friendship.
  • There is an important difference between love and friendship. While the former delights in extremes and opposites, the latter demands equality.
  • Love Him, and keep Him for thy Friend, who, when all go away, will not forsake thee, nor suffer thee to perish at the last.
  • Friends, both the imaginary ones you build for yourself out of phrases taken from a living writer, or real ones from college, and relatives, despite all the waste of ceremony and fakery and the fact that out of an hour of conversation you may have only five minutes in which the old entente reappears, are the only real means for foreign ideas to enter your brain.
  • A man must eat a peck of salt with his friend, before he knows him
  • For believe me, in this world which is ever slipping from under our feet, it is the prerogative of friendship to grow old with one's friends.
  • I get by with a little help from my friends.
  • At the shrine of friendship never say die, let the wine of friendship never run dry - Les Miserables
  • These can never be true friends: Hope, dice, a prostitute, a robber, a cheat, a goldsmith, a monkey, a doctor, a distiller.

What is Love?

©    "Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."

From My Heart:
©    It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return, but what is more painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

©    Maybe we have to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

©    Love is when you take away the feeling, the passion, and the romance in a relationship and find out you still care for that person.

©    A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.

©    When the door of happiness closes, another opens but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

©    The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

©    It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

©    Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back. Don't expect love in return, just wait for it to grow in their heart, but if it doesn't, be sure it grew in yours.

©    There are things you'd love to hear that you would never hear from the person whom you would like to hear from, but don't be so deaf as not to hear it from the one who says it from his heart.

©    Never say good-bye if you still want to try, never give up if you still feel you can go on, never say you don't love a person anymore if you can't let go.

©    Love comes to those who still hope although they've been disappointed, to those who still believe although they've been betrayed, need to love those who still love although they've been hurt before.

©    It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

©    Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth, in the end it fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.

©    There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real.

©    Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to all the things you want to do.

©    May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy and enough money to buy me gifts.

©    Always put yourself in other's shoes. If you feel it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person too.

©    A careless word may kindle strife, a cruel word may wreck a life, a timely word may level stress, a loving word may heal and bless.

©    The beginning of love is to let those we love be just themselves, and not twist them with our own image otherwise, we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.

©    The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

©    Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

©    Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.

©    The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

©    When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

©    Love is an unusual game. There are either two winners or none.

©    If I could reinvent the alphabet, I would put U and I together.

©    Love doesn't make the world go 'round, it makes the ride worthwhile.

©    Love is what makes two people sit in the middle of a bench when there's plenty of room at both ends.

©    The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.
